Bio
I am a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer in ethics and philosophy of technology at Tilburg University. I completed my PhD in Philosophy at the University of Antwerp, supported by a fellowship from the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO). My dissertation reconstructed the human capacity of 'judgment' in the context of algorithmic environments like social media. My postdoctoral research examines the concept of 'meaningful human control' in the context of AI-driven drone operation. I also serve as managing editor of the Journal of Human-Technology Relations.
Before starting my PhD, I studied Philosophy at the University of Antwerp and Digital Humanities at King's College London. Throughout my student career, I took on several mandates as student representative. In 2018-2020, I was President of the Student Council of the University of Antwerp. As President, I was an active member of the Board of Governers, the Executive Board and the Education Board of the University of Antwerp. From this position, I helped co-create the European University Alliance YUFE (Young Universities for the Future of Europe). With the launch of the alliance, I was elected as President of the YUFE Student forum for 2019-2020.
From October 2021 to August 2024, I co-led the non-profit organization De Virtuele Mens vzw ("The Virtual Human"): a philosophical platform that helped companies and the broader public to meaningfully navigate the challenges of 'being human' in the digital age. We organized events for the broader public such as workshops, interactive exhibitions, and panels about the newest technological developments. For companies and institutions, we provided keynotes that help understand their role in ongoing digital transformation of our daily lives. We wrapped up with an interactive exhibition of 'empathy games'.
